As their Howsham Hall wedding photographer, Jess & Dan’s wedding at Howsham Hall had originally been postponed due to Covid. But, after witnessing what an incredible wedding they had at this perfect place, everything definitely happens for a reason. It was the perfect day that wouldn’t have been possible if held on the original date!
Howsham Hall is a luxurious stately home situated in the North Yorkshire countryside. A wedding venue nestled within private land. The great hall has the look of pure elegance when you drive down the road towards the house. The perfect setting situated with panoramic views. One thing that stands out, the Great Hall has such huge windows that perfectly captures all that natural light illuminating the house throughout. Making it the perfect venue for your wedding day.

Dan, the groom, came to greet me when I arrived in the morning, and you could tell from that first moment he was in his element. This was their day and they were going to make the absolute most of it. He chose to get ready with his groomsmen in the billiard room located downstairs – making a great backdrop for the guys relaxing. The photos have a James Bond style class to them, very documentary style!
Jess got ready in the bridal suite located upstairs. One of the great features of a country house wedding venue like this is the ability to get ready on site. The bridal suite is situated directly above the ceremony room, means Jess could walk down the staircase and into the room to meet her husband to be. Take a look at the giant tiger that overlooks the staircase – almost like a guard looking over you. I had a lot of fun with camera angles, making sure he was in the photos.
During the ceremony, Leia the dog had a very special entry alongside the bridesmaids, but instantly laid down and took a nap throughout the entire thing! Luckily, she was fresh as a daisy for some quick photographs afterwards. They say not to work with children or animals but their son and Leia were amazing! The grounds at Howsham Hall are quite large, meaning for a Howsham Hall wedding photographer, there’s plenty of opportunity for capturing amazing images. One of the best views, was looking back towards the house coming down the road with the bride and groom. Have a look through and see if you can find that photo.

Whilst mother nature threw a few rain showers throughout the day, with one conveniently happening right when the group photos were planned it was typical British weather! But later in the day, the sun broke through and shone in all its glory. This offered the perfect opportunity and lighting on their wedding day, to create some dreamy couple photographs, in light you don’t get on a blue sky day. Remember when I said this date was the best one? This is why!
