Rose and Alex’s Pumping House wedding was packed with personal touches, from origami dragons on every plate to a Dungeons and Dragons map for the table plan. The Pumping House is an old pumping station on Brake Lane near Ollerton, with red brick, huge arched windows and three acres of woodland on the edge of Sherwood Forest. It’s a venue with so much character!
Green, cream and orange in the bridal suite
Rose got ready upstairs in the bridal suite with her three bridesmaids and her mum. Her friend Kelly did her hair and makeup. The bridesmaid dresses hung together in green, cream and burnt orange, which set the colours for the whole day.
Her bouquet from Swallows and Damsons was full of cream roses, thistles and wild greenery. Even the windowsills had character, with an old model sailing ship sitting in one of the arched windows.
Her mum and bridesmaids helped her into her Alexandra Anne dress and fixed her veil. Then her dad came up to see her. A big smile first, then a proper hug.
Alex got ready in a dark green three piece suit from Slaters with a burnt orange tie. His groomsmen lined up with him on the cobbled courtyard in front of the red brick building, all looking very sharp.
A ceremony under the arched windows
The ceremony was at 3pm in the Ollerton Room, the main ceremony room at The Pumping House. It has huge arched windows and the light in there is lovely.
Rose walked in with her dad and Alex turned round to see her coming down the aisle. There were plenty of smiles and a few laughs through the vows.
Rings on, a kiss and then back down the aisle to a big cheer from the room.
Confetti on the front steps
Everyone headed out to the red brick front steps for confetti. Alex took a face full of it and couldn’t stop laughing!
Family photos came next, including a really important one with Gran. Then the bridal party headed into the woods behind the venue for theirs.
Drinks were served at the outside bar with canapés and lawn games. A few of the guests took the table football very seriously.

Dragons, maps and napkins in the air
The wedding breakfast room was set with round tables, sage green linen and orange candles. There was a Dungeons and Dragons theme running through it all, with a map of the kingdom for the table plan and an origami dragon at every place.
Guests were up waving their napkins as Rose and Alex walked in. Singing and speeches came first, with Rose watching on from the top table as Alex gave his. Then dinner was served at 5:40pm.
Couple portraits by the big windows
The arched windows are the star of The Pumping House, so we used them for most of the couple portraits. Soft light pours through the glass whatever the weather.
Rose and Alex were so relaxed with each other that it barely felt like a photo shoot. A few cuddles, a dance by the window and plenty of laughing.
A live band and a packed dance floor
First dance was at 8pm, with spins, a dip and a lift that got a cheer from everyone watching. Then the band Le Deuxième Bureau took over, with Alex’s dad joining them on guitar.
The dance floor filled up straight away. There was a human pyramid, Rose dancing with her mum and a round of shots at the bar. It was a brilliant night!
