Travel is a big part of my life and having the chance to photograph your destination wedding in the process is a huge plus. So many people are surprised when I tell them I can travel to capture their wedding, they didn’t think it was possible and it can be surprisingly affordable compared to local photographers prices.

Getting married abroad? You need a destination wedding photographer!

My first destination wedding was actually one the first weddings I ever photographed. This is a few years back now, with an exciting wedding in Harvey Bay in Australia.  I flew all the way out from a snowy January in England, to cover a wedding along the Gold Coast, which took place over a few days.  Luckily, I was able to stay a bit longer seeing Adelaide and the Great Barrier reef, making the epic flight a lot more manageable. I now offer completely tailored packages for you to do something similar. Over the years I have photographed weddings in Australia, America, France, Croatia and Bulgaria. Plus, if we’re being specific, I have travelled all over the UK and into Wales and Scotland, but these come under my usual packages.

I love to hear about your special day when planning your destination wedding photographs
absolutely love this photo of a couple holding each other at their destination wedding location
destination wedding adventures can take a photographer to all corners of the world
wedding venues are completely unique like this castle venue in Bulgaria

Destination Weddings

So, how does destination wedding photography work?

I will fly out to your wedding and cover it in full – as much or little as you wish. This includes the build-up to the wedding day and any events surrounding it not just the wedding day itself. Destination weddings have their own vibe, as your guests generally spend at least a few days on an extended holiday with you. It’s likely you’ll be arranging extras such as a pre wedding dinner, a boat trip, a wine tasting, or tour of a local attraction. I can be there with you all.

Imagine if, on the day before the ceremony, you took a boat trip among the islands, I’ll be right there in the background enjoying it with you, catching photos of this family time.  You won’t need to bring a camera yourselves, as I will capture everything for you. Not many people can say they’ve had their own personal photographer on their holiday!

You may be concerned it will turn your holiday or wedding into one big photoshoot, but that’s where you’re wrong! With my approach, I know exactly when to put the camera down and give you space.

How much will this cost us?

I don’t want there to be any surprises or hidden costs involved for your wedding abroad. Destination wedding photographers, generally charge their normal day rate, plus travel costs (flights, ferry, fuel), food and accommodation. Then, depending on the location, I will need my own transport. I’m happy to use accommodation you already have booked (if there’s a spare room) or a cheap local B&B.

What are the benefits of bringing our own wedding photographer?

The first thing is to compare prices. For someone local with the same creative style as me, how much would the same day coverage, and the days before and after cost? This comparison would be similar if you were looking local to you. By choosing me, I understand the cultural aspects of what you may consider important for an English wedding, that a local may not.

If the destination wedding venue is in a country where English is not the first language, having me is another bonus. I am happy to hear from wedding planners, plus, I am covered under UK insurance. Finally, you’ll receive so many more photographs as I’ll be there so much longer and your guests will become more comfortable with me much quicker.

Experienced destination wedding photographer

After my first trip down under, I was lucky enough to shoot another wedding there in 2018. This was on the Mornington Peninsula near Melbourne. Ironically, it was an English pub on a vineyard, but in terms of a destination wedding photography it was outstanding. Overlooking the bay, gorgeous food and wine, plus the nearby beach, we captured beautiful photographs. We had a pre wedding shoot on the beach the day before, and a mini shoot with the couple and their golden retriever just before their set off to the venue.

Australian Wedding

The following weddings were all held in Europe, so short and relatively cheap flights involved. I've photographed four destination weddings in France now, two of which are below.

Chateau Soulac - French Weddings

Alex and Steve chose me to do their destination wedding photography after seeing my previous work at their venue, Chateau Soulac. I love to photograph weddings at this stunning venue – it’s so very French, but mostly I love how an entire wedding party of friends and family can all be in one place. Plus, the sunsets are just…. wow! Check out their first dance too, stunning!

French Wedding

Chateau Soulac - French Weddings

Ellie and Leighton were also getting married at Chateau Soulac, but I’ve chosen their pre wedding shoot to blog. This is a a tiny snapshot of photos they received, but was a really nice opportunity for them to have an hour or so breather together before their marriage.

Old Town Dubrovnik Wedding

Here is destination wedding photography in the stunning old town of Dubrovnik, Croatia. This couple had been super excited to be married abroad and planned their wedding date around my availability. They took advantage of the extra photography for events the day before and after the wedding and their online gallery is huge! They had two wedding photographers for their wedding, so that bridal and groom prep fun could all be captured. The wedding itself was held on Lokrum Island, and so they had a boat trip as their wedding transport. It was magical journey from beginning to end – the bride Sue smiled all day long!

Dubrovnik Wedding

I have to say, I would love to photograph a wedding in Lake Como or on the Amalfi coast. Italy is such a stunning country in Europe, full of historic villages where a wedding venue can literally be a terrace. Togetherness is so welcome, nevermind the Mediterranean lifestyle. Contact me for a good chat if your Italy wedding is on the cards – you would be in safe hands with me and it would be great to arrange a meeting to discuss what I can offer, no doubt more than you expect!
