Hannah and Mike got married at the beautiful Oaklands in Hull, such a genuine lovely couple and a hidden gem of a venue deep in Yorkshire. What can I say? It was absolutely faultless on their summer sunshine day, with the pavilion on the lake, the perfect location for an outdoor wedding! The dream of every wedding photographer is to have an outdoor ceremony like this. A day full of stunning flowers by Ivy Lane Florist and the exposed timber blending perfectly into the view of the Oaklands Grand Lodge.

Oaklands Grand Lodge Wedding Photography

With bridal preparations at The Swallow’s Nest, a converted stone barn down the road, Hannah and her bridesmaids had a really chilled morning. It was a bright and airy space, so one to make note of if you’re an Oaklands couple. For those wedding photographers out there, it makes a beautiful location for bridal preparation photos! I was given a run for my money, with Madison (their daughter) being gifted a camera of her own to capture her parents big day.

Mike spent the morning with his groomsmen, but feeling a little worse for wear after the night before! Mike soldiered through, tucking into a traditional breakfast. I had messages from my second photographer telling me how hungover poor Mike was. I decided it was best Hannah didn’t know, certainly not from me…!

Hardly any wedding guests ventured under cover, with everyone preferring to be at Oaklands outdoor mini bar and enjoying the day in all the gorgeous spaces around the picturesque lake. The lake is surrounded by woodland and guests are free to explore the natural surroundings. This is one more great thing about an Oaklands wedding, it really does feel personal. Anika’s Apron provided all the gorgeous food for the special day, so it couldn’t get better than that.

Wedding breakfast in the Grand Lodge

As an Oaklands wedding photographer, I have explored the surrounding areas so many times with couples – this means when I have a wedding there and the seasons change, this beautiful venue presents a new opportunity. With Mike and Hannah we took a walk around the Grand Lodge, with the trees around back making a perfect opportunity for some wedding day family photos.

The style of the grounds are rustic, with an aesthetically pleasing design. The timber cladding really blends into the woodland backdrops, giving that barn feel. This really allows you to incorporate your own style, giving your wedding photos that unique touch.
