Gretna Green wedding and Lake District post wedding photoshoot
A wedding at Gretna Green and Lake District post wedding photoshoot? A dream weekend. Elopements have always been my favourite type of wedding, the intimacy of them makes it feel so much more personal, making it a joy to photograph. Sophie and Dan contacted me a few months before to discuss their wedding at Gretna Green with close family attending. I could tell from this initial meeting their love for each other was absolutely incredible. This got the inspiration and ideas flowing I immediately knew we had to do a post wedding shoot the day after. We discussed going and exploring the Lake District, we decided to go with the flow and see what happened.
Row, row, row your boat
On the post wedding shoot the weather was absolutely perfect. We took a rowing boat on Grasmere in the centre of the Lake District, which was rather entertaining as neither of us had rowed a boat previously. With me having to row alongside (with help from my wife Sam), this made for a rather entertaining few hours. But, those photos…!
Fearless swimming
Due to the weather being so hot I suggested the idea of wild swimming. Sophie and Dan LOVED the idea and we took a trip up to Blea Tarn. With Sophie being 6 months pregnant I didn’t expect them to jump to the idea, but she literally jumped in! I must say the water was rather chilly as altho0ugh it was early June and the cold water running off the hills cooled the lake. That didn’t stop Dan jumping straight in after her. The worrying part for me was the fact I had to jump in and commit to the idea also!
Having a couple open to so many cool ideas meant the shots I produced that day were so uniquely personal to them. Its amazing how experiences like this can change your approach towards wedding photography in the future. Life is for experiences and those days away with Dan and Sophie were certainly one of those.
Sophie & Dan booked a family shoot with baby Eliza the following year. Check it out here.
